Youth/Teen Event Announcements
All teens from 6th grade through 12 th grade are invited to attend the St. James retreat weekend, Friday and Saturday, July 25-26. We are promising a fun and interactive retreat.
Friday/Saturday—August 1 and 2--Volunteer your time/service by helping at the Kids Games for the Brats Festival . One and one half hour shifts start at 5:30 pm each night and end at 8:30 pm. When you sign up for a 1 ½ hour shift, you can earn a free DQ Blizzard. Please contact us here to schedule your shift.
Sunday, August 3--Sunday School Under the Big Top Tent—Featuring Mat and Deb Emerick as the “Patchwork Pearables” from Grand Rapids, Michigan. Come join us at 9:15 am as Mat and Deb juggle, do mime, clown acting and story telling that lift the soul to the Glory of Jesus Christ. Mat will also be at the festival on Saturday evening with a strolling performance from 5:30 to 7:30 pm.
Our teen leaders (Lesa Kuebler, Aaron Howard and guest speakers TBA) have prepared a fantastic weekend. See complete schedule on back. We will begin at 6:30 pm Friday evening at St. James with a Spaghetti Dinner and end late Saturday afternoon after canoeing. The weekend will include Bible Study, an outdoor movies theater at St. James, Apple Dumpling Making for the Brats Festival, and canoeing or kayaking. We will be sleeping inside the Education Building on the carpeted floors, so you will need a sleeping bag (and air mattress if you would like) and personal belongings. Also, bring along a swim suit, shoes that can get wet, and a towel for canoeing. Please go to trapperjohnscanoeing.com to get the release form that needs to be filled out and signed by a parent and bring it with you Friday evening.
Not part of the retreat, but it would be great to have all the Youth Group sit together for the 9:30 am Church Service on Sunday, July 27. So let’s plan for this!
Take the challenge, get to know other teens at St. James and come to the weekend retreat. Bring a friend if you would like. If you can’t come for the whole weekend we will take you for any part of it. We just need to know what you are planning. To register for this retreat please contact Lesa Kuebler here.
Youth Group Members and Adult Leaders are to be commended for their work on the Playground and the HELP House meal. St. James should be proud of the 18+ youth who helped remove the sod, put down landscape fabric and move in 40 tons of pea gravel to the playground behind the Education Building. The purpose behind this project was to make this area maintenance free. And much of this project was paid for through the Mission Dinner the youth held in April and the matching Care In Congregation Fund from Thrivent. the restaining of the playground equipment will be completed at a later date.
The youth also prepared and packaged 350 meals for people at the HELP House in London, Ohio utilizing the money the youth made for the Souper Bowl of Caring Project. A special note of thanks to Beth Vallo and family for the use of her home, pool and hot tub so the youth had a chance to relax. And huge thanks to our adult leaders who served during this event: Dave Schultz, Julie Schmidt, Aaron and Debby Howard, Tracy and Greg Hennes, Roy Ohr, Jeanine and Scott Beisner, and Steve and Lesa Kuebler. This was an awesome project. The kids work hard and had fun too!
