Sunday School--Under the Big Top Tent
Returning for a third year, Mat Emerick and his wife Deb are coming all the way from Grand Rapids, Michigan. They will excite and charm an audience with comedic juggling, and stories that lift the soul to the Glory of Jesus Christ. Mat juggles a variety of objects (beanbags, balls, rings, clubs, and basketballs), balances on a “rolla bolla” (a board on a cylinder), walks on his hands and more. Mat also does a style of mime and clown that is infused with the spirit of great silent movie comedians like Charlie Chaplin and Buster Keaton. Deb does the music and adds to the story telling. Come join us Sunday morning August 3 for this exciting event. Christian fun for the whole family!
Mat will also be our guest at the Brats Festival on Saturday evening, August 8th with a strolling performance from 6:00 to 8:00 pm. This is really Mat’s forte as he uses a combination of juggling, mime, clowning and storytelling all into one.
Sunday School Classes will resume on Sunday, September 6 at 9:15 am with opening in the Fellowship Hall. Classes will begin at 9:30 am and run until 10:30 am. Special music for our Preschoolers and Kindergarteners will be held at 10:00 am.
Christian Education Sunday will be held on Sunday, September 13. Watch more details on this important day in next months Herald. Remember the Can Tab Contest Concludes this day!
Volunteers are needed to fill a two kindergarten Sunday School teaching positions, one co-teacher is needed for the 3rd and 4th grade class and Director for Children’s Music starting the Fall of 2009. Please contact Lesa Kuebler if you are interested.
Parish Education Meeting is being planned for Sunday, August 23, at 11:00 am. This is a mandatory meeting for all Sunday School Teachers and Staff. Lunch will be provided.
CAN TAB CONTEST--BOYS AGAINST THE GIRLS—BEGINS MAY 1 THROUGH
SEPTEMBER 13. Use your summer months to organize a neighborhood collection drive for can tabs for the Ronald McDonald House—A Home Away From Home for families with children who have long term illnesses. The tab on the can is a pure form of aluminum and is worth more money, then the can itself. The winning group gets to select who from the Sunday School Staff will get a little CoolWhip pie in the face!

Mini-Retreat/Apple Dumpling Making/Canoeing/Kayaking all rolled into one fun weekend—July 31 and August 1. Youth members are invited to join together for this adventurous retreat. We will begin at 6:30 pm with dinner at church, devotionals exercises, and the movie “Facing the Giants.” Wake up to a breakfast and then have fun making the traditional Brats Festival Apple Dumplings. Use the peelers, make dough, roll dough, form the dumplings, or fill them and 1500 and some dumplings later we may be done. After lunch, we will load our vehicles for a trip to Trapper Johns’ Canoe Livery. Who will get stuck on the rapids? Who will be the first to be helped into the water? Who can conquer the rope swing? Who can paddle backwards? And how do you get back into the canoe after falling out? Spiders in the canoe? A canoe floating down the rapids with no passengers? Hope you have reserved you spot for this retreat.
